Escalate a ticket to the Product and Engineering team

Share a customer issue with Product and Engineering and keep both records in step.

Written by Heather Worthington

Escalation has two parts:

  • An Azure DevOps work item

  • A link between that work item and your ticket.

Once they are synced, updates flow in both directions, so you do not need to check two systems for the same answer.

Sync the work item with the ticket

To connect the two records, create the work item first.

  1. Create the Azure DevOps work item for the product affected.

  2. Copy the work item ID number.

  3. Enter the ID in the Dev ID field of the Support ticket or Tracker ticket.

What syncing gives you

The sync keeps the ticket current without any manual copying.

  • The State, Triage Status, and Fix Version of the work item sync to the ticket attributes.

  • A comment in Azure DevOps that includes '@cet' is added to the ticket as an internal comment, and sets the ticket state to With us.

  • A note on the ticket that includes '@dev' is added to the work item as a comment.

  • A link to the work item is included on any comment added from an Azure DevOps update.
